Regular Season Round 20: Aris - Ionikos 103-64

Rather expected game when 11th ranked Ionikos (4-16) was smashed by eighth ranked Aris (10-10) in Thessaloniki 103-64 on Saturday. Aris dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Ionikos' 20. Aris forced 22 Ionikos turnovers and outrebounded them 39-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by the former international point guard Vasileios Toliopoulos (186-1996) who scored that evening 20 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and American forward Chevez Goodwin (206-1998, college: USC) supported him with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Aris players scored in double figures. Even 8 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Deontae Hawkins (203-1993, college: Boston Coll., agency: Diamond Sports) did not help to save the game for Ionikos. American-Dominican Angel Nunez (203-1991, college: S.Florida) added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aris moved-up to seventh place. Ionikos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost. They share it with Karditsas. Aris will meet Kolossos HH (#8) in the next round. Ionikos will play against Lavrio and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
