Everything went according to plan when first ranked Empoli (20-3) beat at home 10th ranked Ancona (8-15) 57-52 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Antonia Peresson (170-1995, college: Georgia Tech) who scored 9 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Point guard Federica Merisio (170-2003) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Abiodun Yusuf (180-2000) produced 5 points and 18 rebounds and Czech Anna Rylichova (180-1999) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Ancona's coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Empoli. They maintain first place with 20-3 record, which they share with Scrivia. Newly promoted Ancona keeps the tenth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Bolzano BC and RO SAzzurra. Empoli will meet at home San Salvatore (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Ancona will play against Patti (#3) and hope to secure a win.
