Second Stage Round 9: Timisoara - Rapid 81-91

Very expected game when 9th ranked Timisoara (6-12) was defeated at home by third ranked Rapid (11-7) 91-81 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rapid. Timisoara managed to win second period 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rapid shot 63.6 percent from the field. American point guard Jay Threatt (180-1989, college: Delaware St.) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import Tyler Stone (203-1991, college: SEMO) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Five Rapid players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Serbian point guard Ilija Djokovic (191-1996) with 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists and Serbian center Igor Kesar (210-1992, agency: Mansfield and Associates) scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. Timisoara's coach Dragan Petricevic rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Rapid maintains third place with 11-7 record having five points less than leader Ploiesti CSM. Loser Timisoara dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Dinamo B.. Rapid's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Bucuresti Dinamo B..
