Second Stage Round 5: Khmelnytskyi - Che-Basket 105-75
Date: April 7, 2023
Not a big story in a game when 16th ranked Che-Basket (1-7) was rolled over on the road by twelfth ranked Khmelnytskyi (4-1) 105-75 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Khmelnytskyi. Che-Basket managed to win fourth quarter 26-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khmelnytskyi dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Che-Basket's 38. Khmelnytskyi forced 30 Che-Basket turnovers and outrebounded them 43-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Nikita Kohut (197-2002) who scored 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward Alexander Buzhansky (187-2003) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Five Khmelnytskyi players scored in double figures. Guard Nikita Tsurkan (185-2001) produced 26 points and 7 rebounds and forward Valentin Goma (192-2006) added 23 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Khmelnytskyi have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Invasport. Che-Basket lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixteenth position with seven games lost. Khmelnytskyi will meet bottom-ranked Poltava (#17) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Che-Basket will have a break next round.
