Finals Game 1: Kataja - Vilpas 107-96
Date: April 29, 2023
The game was mostly controlled by Kataja. Vilpas was better in fourth quarter 28-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Kataja brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (198-1991, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Galin Smith (206-1998, college: Maryland) contributed with 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Ira Lee (203-1998, college: Arizona) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and guard Quentin Goodin (193-1997, college: Xavier, agency: Diamond Sports) added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for Vilpas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vilpas' coach Jussi Savolainen rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
