MLP Academics Heidelberg can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Tuebingen, where they defeated Tigers (1-3) 94-84 on Saturday. MLP Academics Heidelberg made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. MLP Academics Heidelberg outrebounded Tigers 41-30 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Mike McGuirl (189-1998, college: Kansas St.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and the other American import Tim Coleman (196-1995, college: NJIT) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. At the losing side Puerto Rican-Panamanian point guard Jhivvan Jackson (183-1998, college: UTSA) responded with 26 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and Austrian Erol Ersek (195-1999) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. MLP Academics Heidelberg left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Tigers. MLP Academics Heidelberg will meet at home Hamburg Towers (#16) in the next round. Tigers will play against Seawolves in Rostock and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
