Regular Season Round 5: Craiova - Pitesti 80-82

Eighth-ranked Craiova (0-3) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Pitesti (5-1) on Saturday. The visitors from Pitesti managed to secure only two-point victory 82-80. However their fans expected much easier game. Craiova was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 9-point lead after three quarters before a 24-15 charge of Pitesti, which allowed them to win the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Pitesti looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Serbian center Nikola Jevtovic (209-1989) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Corey Allen-Williams (188-1998, college: Georgia St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists for the winners. Ukrainian point guard Vitaliy Zotov (188-1997) answered with 24 points and New Zealand forward Matt Freeman (207-1997, college: UCSB) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Craiova. Four Pitesti and five Craiova players scored in double figures. Pitesti keeps a position of league leader. Craiova at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. Pitesti will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Craiova will play on the road against Constanta (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
