Regular Season Round 5: Kyiv Basket - Budivelnyk 69-68

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Superleague took place in Kyiv. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Budivelnyk (5-2) to sixth ranked Kyiv Basket (4-3) 69-68 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Budivelnyk. Budivelnyk was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. American forward Brantley Bynum (196-1994, college: SF State) saved the victory by scoring 25 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). His fellow American import guard Danya Kingsby (185-1998, college: GSU) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Kyiv Basket's coach Volodymyr Kholopov used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international power forward Maksim Sandul (207-1991, agency: BIG) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Volodymyr Koniev (203-1989) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Budivelnyk. Kyiv Basket have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Cherkasy. Defending champion Budivelnyk keeps the second position with two games lost. Kyiv Basket is looking forward to face BIPA O. (#10) in Odessa in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Budivelnyk will play on the road against Cherkasy (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
