Regular Season Round 13: TSU - Kavkasia 82-99

Date: February 10, 2024
The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked TSU (9-3) in Tbilisi on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Kavkasia (6-6) 99-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of TSU. The game was mostly controlled by Kavkasia. TSU managed to win second period 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kavkasia dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to TSU's 32. It was a great shooting night for Kavkasia especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jawaun Daniels (201-1998, college: PVAMU) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 8 rebounds. The former international point guard Luka Maziashvili (187-2000, college: UMass Lowell) contributed with 14 points, 9 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Maziashvili is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Serbian center Nikola Vujovic (211-1993) answered with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Aleksandre Phevadze (207-1998, agency: BIG) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for TSU. Five Kavkasia and four TSU players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kavkasia maintains sixth place with 6-6 record. Defending champion TSU still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Delta. Kavkasia are looking forward to face league's second-placed Delta in Gurjaani in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. TSU will play on the road against Orbi in Tkibuli and is hoping to win this game.
