Second Stage Round 9: Zalgiris II - Jurbarkas 87-84

The most exciting game of round 9 in the NKL took place in Kaunas. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 4th placedJurbarkas (17-17) to sixth ranked Zalgiris II (16-18) 87-84 on Thursday evening. Zalgiris II dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Jurbarkas ' 36. Zalgiris II forced 22 Jurbarkas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zalgiris II made 26 blocks. Nedas Montvila (194-2002) stepped up and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and guard Matas Vokietaitis (206-2004) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was the former international guard Mindaugas Lukauskis (198-1979) with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks and Lukas Zukauskas (186-1992) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks. Five Zalgiris II and four Jurbarkas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zalgiris II moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Vilkaviskis. Jurbarkas lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Delikatesas.
