Charleroi defends the title in Belgium with perfect 3-0 against Mons - Jun 6, 2009

Charleroi - M.Hainaut 66-57

TEC Spirou Charleroi defended the championship title in Belgium. The team of Drazen Anzulovic (agency: Agency No 10 ) did that with three straight wins against Dexia Mons-Hainaut. Jerry Johnson (183-G-82, agency: Hart Sports Mngm, college: Rider) led the scorers tonight in Charleroi with 14 points. Len Matela (206-C-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Bowling Green) came off the bench collecting 12 points and 6 boards, while Matt Walsh (197-F/G-82, agency: Arik Krayn Services, college: Florida) and Wes Wilkinson (207-F-84, college: Nebraska) delivered 10 pts each. Walsh also had 11 rebounds beside that. In Mons, Elton Nesbitt (176-G-80, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Georgia Southern) shined with 13 points. Ben Ebong (202-F/C-76, college: Davidson) and Nate Reinking (188-G-73, college: Kent St.) added 12 pts apiece. It seems that the second quarter was the crucial tonight as Charleroi ended it 27-14. Mons intensified defense after the breather stopping the hosts on just 8 points, but they needed a way more for a turn. Jerry Johnson and his teammates finished the last ten minutes with 18-13 for the new title and big joy of their fans.
As a reminder Charleroi enterd to Semifinals as a regular season champion. They had 26-6 record. The new/old title holder, together with Mons, booked a place straight to the semis as the two top-ranked teams in regular season. Charleroi was better than Antwerp with 2-1, celebrating in the last match at home. Mons did the same, but against Aalstar.
