Vasilje Micic - the best player in Europe of 2021

Nikola Jokic - Best European player of 2021
Traditionally each year Eurobasket announces the European awards for last year.

It's already 18th such ranking prepared by Eurobasket.com staff for basketball in Europe. Eurobasket has a network of correspondents, most of them are located in Europe and participated in preparing the ranking.

We have the policy of not involving the fans as it may influence the final ranking and instead of that we rely on the opinions of experts.

The votes were made in two categories: All-Europe and All-Europeans.

All-Europe ranking applies to the players, who played in European leagues in last (20-21) and this (21-22) season, so it may apply also to non-European players, who played as imports in Europe.

All-Europeans category applies only to Europeans, but also these, who played overseas (mostly in NBA).

Point guard Vasilije Micic (196-PG-94), a driving force in Anadolu Efes Istanbul's staying power among the Turkish Airlines Euroleague elite, has been chosen the All-Europe Player of the Year 2021. On 30 May 2021, he led his team to their first Euroleague Championship and was named the EuroLeague Final Four MVP.

All-Europe Shooting Guard of the Year award goes to Shane Larkin (182-G-92, college: Miami, FL) of Andalou Efes. He was a main contributor in last Eurolegue campaign when his team was crowned Champions and Shane scored 21 points in the Grand Final.

At Small Forward position we have Vladimir Lucic (204-SF-89), Serbian playing for Bayern Munich. Last season Lucic was ranked eighth among all EuroLeague players with an average performance index rating of 17.8. The do-it-all small forward ranked among Bayern's top three players in points (13.6), rebounds (4.8) and steals (1.1) and assured Bayern its first EuroLeague Playoffs berth.

All-Europe Power Forward of the Year award goes to Nikola Mirotic (208-PF-91) who was a dominant force throughout the season, ranked second among all EuroLeague players in performance index rating (19.6 PIR), fourth in rebounds (5.8), eighth in points (15.5) and 15th in steals (1.2).

The Real Madrid center Walter Tavares (220-C-92) in All-Europe Center of the Year. Tavares led the Euroleague in blocked shots with 1.8bpg, ranked second in rebounding with 8.0rpg and was fifth in the league in performance index rating with 18.1 per game.

Ergin Ataman's outstanding work on the Anadolu Efes Istanbul bench was recognized with the Eurobasket.com All-Europe Coach of the Year award.

Kevin Pangos (186-PG-93, college: Gonzaga), Mike James (185-G-90, college: Lamar), Will Clyburn (201-SF-90, college: Iowa St.), Tornike Shengelia (206-PF-91) and Brandon Davies (208-C-91, college: BYU) were all selected to Eurobasket.com All-Europe 2nd Team.

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (213-C-95) is the recipient of the Eurobasket.com All-Europeans Player of the Year award. Serbian big man was arguably best player in the world as he became the first player from Serbia to be selected as the NBA MVP. He is also the first player and joins Dirk Nowitzki (Germany) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-F-94) (Greece) as MVP winners from Europe.

All-Europeans Point Guard of the Year is no one else than Luka Doncic (201-G-99). After another great individual campaign in the NBA Doncic represented Slovenian National Team at the Olimpics in Tokyo. He picked up the first Olympic triple-double since 2012, and just the third one in the history of the Games with his 16 points, 18 assists and 10 rebounds in the Semi-Finals. The Slovenian almost averaged a triple-double for the entire event - 23.8ppg, 9.7rpg, 9.5apg.

Bogdan Bogdanovic (198-SG-92) was selected as All-Europeans Shooting Guard of the Year. The Serbian is one of the key players for the Atlanta Hawks, toghether they reached NBA Semifinals last season.

At Small Forward position we have Bojan Bogdanovic (203-SF-89) of the Utah Jazz. The Croatian veteran is still one of the leaders of his team, Bojan also represented Croatian National Team during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Split, unfortunately they were not able to secure the tickets to Tokyo.

Europeans Power Forward of the Year is Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freek completed the career most valuable player trifecta by winning NBA Championship and being named the NBA Finals MVP. Antetokounmpo became just the 11th player in league history to have won the NBA regular-season MVP (2018, 2019), a Finals MVP (2021) and an All-Star Game MVP (2021). He and Michael Jordan are the only players to claim those honors and also a NBA Defensive Player of the Year award.

Vasilije Micic, Evan Fournier (198-SG-92), Nicolas Batum (203-SF-88), Domantas Sabonis (209-PF-96, college: Gonzaga) and Rudy Gobert (216-C-92) were all selected to Eurobasket.com All-Europeans 2nd Team.
