1.DIVISION: Kauhajoki back on Top level - Apr 18, 2009
Pohjanmaa and Karhu (Kauhajoki) is back on Top level in Finnish basketball. Karhu's first season ever in Korisliiga 2007-08 was not a big success, when Kauhajoki fell out of the top league with 12-30 record. But Team didn't give up. They re-built a new team with Head Coach Greg Gibson and the only goal was to make a quick come back to Korisliiga. Vilpas from Salo was also interested in returning back on top level, but ex-NBA-player Eric Washington (192-F/G-74, agency: Interperformances, college: Alabama), 35, was too much for Vilpas. Washington scored game high 28 pts and 11 pts during the last six minutes tonight. 53-53 numbers were changed into 74-62 and Karhu had reached the season goal. Quarters today: 20-12, 11-18, 13-18 and 30-14. Karhu had four players in double digits: Eric Washington 28/11, Kwamena Brace 14/8, Maurice Horton 14/3 and Brandon Polk 10/7. Vilpas had only the three Americans over 10 pts: Amani Daanish 19/15, Quinnell Green 17/5 and Aubrey Conerly 12/3. Vilpas will be given another chance to play on top level next season. If they win twice over Team Componenta (Karkkila), the # 11 Team from Korisliiga, there would be two new teams on top level 2009-10.
