Gold medal for our men's 5vs5 national team! On Saturday, the team of coach Ken Diederich was able to win the games of the small States of Europe. In a thrilling final against host Malta in a crowded gym, Luxembourg was able to win the game 78:69. It is the first time in history that our men win the gold medal at the GSSE. Clancy Rugg (204-F/C-1991, college: Vermont) was simply unstoppable to start the game, he hit long range shots and attacked the basket and helped Luxembourg take a 40:30 lead into the break. The FLBB-squad kept the tempo high and was able to extend the lead in the third quarter with big plays. At the end of 3 quarters, Luxembourg led 60:47. Sparked by their amazing support from the stands, the home team did not give up and challenged Luxembourg. In fact, Malta stormed back and the game was close with 5 minutes remaining (64:63). The FLBB squad took over control of the game in the end and finally won this very intense game by 9 points.
