The most exciting league in the Second division took an end last week (as Eurobasket first wrote seven months ago). Amyntas was definitely the strongest team in the league and this was proved by the record of 23-7. Amyntas played the best basketball in the second division and especially the second round was unbeatable. The young team of Coach Vangelis Vlahos (average age 23.3) had as a leading figure Martin Lazaridis, the young forward was the top scorer of his team (14.1ppg) and the top rebounder (6.8rpg) Martin was among the standouts of the division, the 24 years old player can easily play in A2 and under some circumstances in the A1. Following the young forward, Leonidas Zoupas was a steady value for the team, the 27 years old guard was amazing in the second round with 12.8 points per game and 2.8 assists helped a lot coach Vangelis Vlahos team to succeed an amazing 15 winning games in a row and was the captain and the coach in the court. Lastly, the power forward Costas Vogiatzis (12.5ppg, 4.9rpg) added some quality in the paint and together with the veteran Alexandr Moumouris they dominated most of the games adding power, points and rebounds. Last season which the team of Amyntas played in the A2 was the season 1997-1998. The second in the league, team of Ikaroi Serron had also a very good second round and ended the league with the best position in its history doing also the best record ever with 21-9. The leading figures in the Serres teams were two veterans and a talent. Starting of the real leader of the Serres team, the small forward Costs Pehlivanis, with his 14.5ppg, his 6.7rpg and his 1.7spg was definitely the strongest link between the Power forward and second scorer of the team, experienced center, Thanasis Topouzis (13.7ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.1bpg) and the talented forward Giorgos Asimakis(11.4ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.3apg). Ikaroi Serres succeeded their best ever season in the second division and their (for the very first time), promotion in the A2. The Serres Basketball is celebrating the last 10 days the amazing and heroic team of Coach Stathis Kamarakis . The Third team in the league which won the promotion the last minutes of the final day of the Second division was Ikaros Kallitheas, the team of Coach Aris Likogiannis , the newcomers in the basketball life of Greece, (1991) team of Kallithea had the same record as Ikaroi Serron but in their in between games the Serres team had better results. Kallithea stole the promotion from Lavrio the very last minute as both teams loose their last game but especially the team of Lavrio suicide as they lost the very last game against a generally much weaker team (Anagennisi Floga) in their hoem court. The leading figure of Ikaros was the experienced super scorer Vasilis Emmanouilidis (17.4ppg) Vassilis put his signature as a scorer in all the crucial games. Vassilis will return to a very well known division, as he spent many years in A2 with Doukas, Pagrati and Ilysiakos. Second leading figure for the Kallithea team was the experienced power forward and center Sotiris Katoufas (206-F-79), the 30 years old player had 16ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.6bpg. He was the power in the paint for the Kallithea team while with his experience he helped his team-mates (Koukouras, Krasopoulos and Tsotsos) to play much better. Lastly, the veteran player Alexis Falekas who joined the team the very last minute, with all his games in A1 and A2 gave the best in the begginign when things were really very bad for the Kallithea team, Alexis (10.7ppg, 3.1apg, 2.2rpg and 1.2spg) helped the team and his team-mates from the crucial position of the point guard as he was the coach in the court and many times he was the one to organize the team in the very difficult situations against very strong teams. |
