NBA 2K27 on Xbox: four Europeans sit in the top six

NBA 2K27 has been on shelves and digital stores since September 4, 2026, with Victor Wembanyama on the Standard Edition cover. The game is out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch 2, and for the first time in years the conversation around its ratings has a distinctly European accent.

Four of the six highest-rated players in the game come from FIBA Europe nations. Wembanyama, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo all sit at 96 or 97 overall, and a long list of their national team colleagues fill out the top 100.

How an NBA 2K27 key works on Xbox Series X|S

A large share of Xbox players now buy the game digitally rather than on disc. An NBA 2K27 key is a 25-character code that adds the game to a Microsoft account once it is redeemed. It can be entered through the Microsoft Store app on the console, the Xbox app on PC or mobile, or at redeem.microsoft.com in a browser.

Codes are sold by the Microsoft Store itself and by third-party marketplaces such as LootBar. The redemption process is identical either way, as the key is issued for the Xbox platform rather than for a specific shop.

Three things are worth checking before redeeming. The key has to match the edition you want (Standard, Deluxe or Ultra), it has to be valid in the region tied to your Microsoft account, and it has to be redeemed on the account you actually play on, since a used code cannot be moved. NBA 2K27 is a current-generation release only, so there is no Xbox One version.

Four Europeans in the top six

2K revealed its ratings in August, and NBA.com published the full top 100 list ahead of launch. Three players share the top spot at 97 overall: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Wembanyama and Jokic.

Wembanyama made the biggest jump. FIBA's breakdown of the top 20 notes that the Frenchman climbed from ninth in NBA 2K26 to second, after averaging 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks and leading the San Antonio Spurs to the 2026 NBA Finals. He also became the first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year in league history.

Jokic was the No. 1 in last year's game and drops only two places despite averaging a triple-double for Denver: 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game. Doncic and Antetokounmpo both played for their countries at EuroBasket 2025 and both open the new game at 96.

The rest of Europe's contingent

The European presence runs well beyond the top six. Alperen Sengun of Turkey sits at 87, level with players such as Paolo Banchero and Evan Mobley. Finland's Lauri Markkanen is rated 86, while Germany's Franz Wagner and Lithuania's Domantas Sabonis both land at 85.

Further down, France has two more names in the top 100: Rudy Gobert at 84 and Alexandre Sarr at 83. Croatia's Ivica Zubac is rated 84 and Germany's Isaiah Hartenstein 82. Israel's Deni Avdija, who plays his international basketball in FIBA Europe, is the highest-rated of the group outside the top six at 88.

What changed on the court

Visual Concepts has reworked both ends of the floor under its ProPLAY system, which now draws on more than 7,000 new animations captured from real NBA footage. Offense gets a customisable dribbling suite and new drive moves. Defense gets a two-way hands-up system, a redesigned shot-contest readout and a collision model that weighs the ratings of both players involved.

The modes have changed as much as the gameplay:

• MyCAREER adds Eras, which lets players run the league across five past periods, a new 11-chapter story called Fire & Concrete and the series' first co-op campaign.

• The City is co-ed for the first time, with female MyPLAYERs competing alongside male builds.

• MyNBA introduces a 100-year Legacy mode with a rebuilt front office.

• MyTEAM gives every card its own Player XP and merges the Auction House into one market.

The badge system has also grown from 40 badges in NBA 2K26 to 53.

Editions and early access

NBA 2K27 is sold in three editions, each with its own cover athlete. Wembanyama fronts the Standard Edition, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark the Deluxe Edition and former MVP Derrick Rose the Ultra Edition. It is Rose's second NBA 2K cover after NBA 2K13.

Deluxe and Ultra owners got up to seven days of early access from August 28. Both premium editions also carry extra virtual currency and MyTEAM and MyCAREER content, though neither is available in Belgium, Brazil or South Korea.

Player ratings will move throughout the 2026-27 season as 2K updates them to reflect form. For European fans, the starting point is already the strongest the continent has had in the series: three of the four players at the very top learned the game in Europe.
