LBBL Round 17 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Sparta defeat Kordall S.

LBBL top team - Sparta (14-3) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Kordall S. (5-11) in Bertrange 103-68. Sparta dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Kordall S.'s 44. They outrebounded Kordall S. 42-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Kordall S. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Victor Iwuakor (200-1999, college: Southern Miss) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds (on 19-of-20 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international guard Max Logelin (187-2003) chipped in 14 points and 7 assists. American guard Erik Timko (196, college: Delaware) responded with 29 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sparta maintains first place with 14-3 record, which they share with Arantia. Newly promoted Kordall S. keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Sparta is looking forward to face Residence (#7) in Bereldange in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Kordall S. will play at home against AB Contern and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Dudelange was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Amicale (12-5) played at the court of 6th ranked T71 (9-7). Amicale defeated T71 82-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of T71. American guard Malcolm Richardson (185-1994, college: Florida St. Jkv) nailed 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winning side and Ashton Sherrell accounted for 24 points and 7 rebounds. Amicale's coach Daniel Brandao allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Jimmie Taylor (193-1994, college: Rider) came up with 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for T71 in the defeat. Amicale have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 12-5 record. T71 at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Amicale will play against league's second-placed Arantia in Larochette in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. T71 will play on the road against Racing (#10) in Luxembourg and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Mamer managed to escape with a 1-point win 95-94 on Saturday evening. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was Dom Sleva who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Antonio Bivins produced 24 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Mamer moved-up to eighth place. Newly promoted Racing dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost. Mamer will meet higher ranked Esch (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Racing will play against T71 (#6) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 17: Esch destroyed AB Contern on the opponent's court 81-58. Etzella managed to outperform Residence in a home game 100-83. Musel Pikes was rolled over Arantia on the road 102-82.

Very expected game when 12th ranked AB Contern (1-16) was crushed at home by fifth ranked Esch (11-6) 81-58 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Esch made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Clancy Rugg (204-1991, college: Vermont) who scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. American guard Quinn Nelson (190-1999, college: SW Baptist) chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Esch players scored in double figures. American Josh Ferguson (203-1996, college: Winthrop) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and Canadian Jeffrey Schumacher (193) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The victory was the third consecutive win for Esch. They maintain fifth place with 11-6 record. AB Contern lost their eighth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Esch will meet at home Mamer (#8) in the next round. AB Contern will play against Kordall S. (#9) in Rodange and hope to win that game.

Rather predictable result in Ettelbruck where third ranked Etzella (13-4) defeated 7th ranked Residence (8-9) 100-83 on Friday. Etzella made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was power forward Nick Davis (206-2001, college: Omaha) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Adrian Delph (191-2000, college: App State) chipped in 23 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Etzella players scored in double figures. Guard Clark Slajchert (185, college: USC) produced 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Brendan Bailey (203-1997, college: Marquette) added 24 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Residence's coach Dragan Stipanovic rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion maintains third place with 13-4 record behind leader Sparta. Residence lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Etzella will meet Musel Pikes (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. His fellow American import guard Kevon Godwin (188-2000, college: Angelo St.) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists.
