LBBL Round 18 (Regular Season): Arantia edge Amicale by two points

The Regular Season in LBBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 18 in the LBBL took place in Steinsel. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th ranked Amicale (12-6) to second ranked Arantia (15-3) 87-85 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Amicale. The best player for the winners was American guard Kevon Godwin (188-2000, college: Angelo St.) who scored 32 points. Lithuanian Jonas Levickas (200-1999) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Ashton Sherrell (203, college: JCSU, agency: BIG) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Arantia have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sparta. Amicale at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with Esch. Arantia is looking forward to face Racing (#10) in Luxembourg in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Amicale will play on the road against Etzella (#3) in Ettelbruck and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Bereldange was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Sparta (15-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Residence (8-10). Sparta did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 89-72. It was a good game for American swingman Jarvis Williams (198-1989, college: MSU, agency: BIG) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds. Max Logelin contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Brendan Bailey (203-1997, college: Marquette) replied with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Residence. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sparta keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Arantia. Residence lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Sparta will play against Musel Pikes (#11) in Stadrbredimus in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Residence will play on the road against AB Contern (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Philippe Gutenkauf scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Konan Oth with 26 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains third position with 14-4 record behind leader Sparta. Musel Pikes lost fourteenth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Etzella will meet at home Amicale (#4) in the next round. Musel Pikes will play against the league's leader Sparta (#1) in Bertrange and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 18 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Mamer was defeated by Esch in a road game 89-79. Kordall S. beat AB Contern at home 98-82. T71 won against Racing on the opponent's court 87-81.




Amicale - Arantia 85-87

Esch - Mamer 89-79

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Mamer (6-12) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Esch (12-6) 89-79 on Sunday. Esch looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international power forward Clancy Rugg (204-1991, college: Vermont) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Quinn Nelson (190-1999, college: SW Baptist) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists during the contest. Four Esch players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Dom Sleva (198, college: Shippensburg) with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Terry Winn III (201-1995, college: UTRGV) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Esch have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Amicale. Loser Mamer dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. Esch will meet at home Kordall S. (#8) in the next round. Mamer will play against T71 and hope to secure a win.

No shocking result in a game in Rodange where ninth ranked Kordall S. (6-11) defeated bottom-ranked AB Contern (1-17) 98-82 on Saturday. Kordall S. outrebounded AB Contern 44-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. Kordall S. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Argentinian guard Gianluca Pellegrino (190-1993) had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Erik Timko (196, college: Delaware) chipped in 31 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Kordall S. players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Josh Ferguson (203-1996, college: Winthrop) with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Marcellus Garrick (193-1995, college: Cal Poly) scored 22 points and 6 assists. Kordall S. moved-up to eighth place. AB Contern lost ninth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 17 lost games. Kordall S. will meet higher ranked Esch (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. AB Contern will play against Residence (#7) and hope to win that game.

Taylor is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American forward Antonio Bivins (199-1992, college: UMass Lowell) with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import center Brendan Temple (206-2000, college: Purdue NW) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds.
