Serbia overwhelmed Puerto Rico 107-66 for the initial win in Lille for a 1-1 record at the Olympic Games 2024. The European powerhouse started with a massive 24-12 run and dominated the rest of the game. Serbia added a 28-23 run in the second frame for a 52-35 halftime advantage. Serbia continued their dominance in the third quarter as Vanja Marinkovic (198-SG-1997, agency: Octagon Europe) made it 68-43 and then Nikola Jokic (212-C-1995) drove a lay-up for a 72-44 lead. The latter closed the quarter with a three for a 79-51 lead. Later in the fourth Serbia looked for a three-digit number as Uros Plavsic (213-C-1998, college: Tennessee) scored for 100-62. Uros Plavsic and Vanja Marinkovic delivered the last points for the winning side. Filip Petrusev (211-C-2000, college: Gonzaga) led well-balanced team with 15 points, Nikola Jokic collected 14 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists, whilst Vasilije Micic (194-PG-1994) and Bogdan Bogdanovic (198-SG-1992) netted 13 each. Christopher Ortiz (G) replied with 19 points in the losing effort. |
