Paris 2024: Germany overcome slow start, beat Greece in quarterfinal

Germany - Greece 76-63

Germany are the first semifinalists at the 2024 Olympic Games. The World Cup champions held off Greece in the opening game of the stage in Paris. Franz Wagner (208-F-2001, college: Michigan) finished with 18 points to lead the winners.
Greece got to a flying start to the game. The Hellenes jumped off to a 21-11 lead after ten minutes. But Germany quickly bounced back. They picked up the tempo in the second stanza. Germany poured in 25 points to tie things up at 36 at halftime. Greece grabbed a 47-42 lead midway through the third term but Germany finished the period on a 17-5 run to gain a 59-52 advantage. Germany eventually opened a double-digit lead 67-57 midway through the fourth quarter and rallied to a comfortable win at the end. Dennis Schroeder (185-PG-1993) accounted for 13 points, while Johannes Thiemann (206-PF-1994) had 10 points for Germany. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-F-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 22 points for Greece. Thomas Walkup (193-G-1992, college: SF Austin) had 12 points in the loss.
