Polonia Bytom shake off Game 3 stumble to clinch promotion to Poland's second tier- June 1, 2026BS Polonia Bytom secured promotion to Poland's 1 Liga Mezczyzn on Sunday, beating PGE GiEK Turow Zgorzelec 83-70 in Game 4 to take their playoff series 3-1 and complete a long-sought rise to the second division.
After winning the first two games in Zgorzelec, Polonia appeared on the verge of a routine promotion. But coach Jaroslaw Krysiewicz's side had other ideas, aiming to win twice at Bytom's "Skarpa" arena a venue no team had conquered all season and force a decider on their home floor. Zgorzelec delivered a superb performance in Game 3, capitalizing on a poor shooting night from the hosts, particularly from beyond the arc, to escape with a one-point win, 68-67. The reprieve was short-lived. Polonia rediscovered their shooting touch in Game 4, and Zgorzelec had no answer. The hosts shot 50 percent from two, 44.4 percent from three, and dominated down the stretch. When the lead reached 16 points with three minutes remaining, the outcome was beyond doubt. Krzysztof Wasowicz (183-PG-1994) led Polonia with 15 points on a perfect 4-of-4 from two, adding five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals for a game-high 26 efficiency. Wojciech Leszczynski (190-SG-1992) matched him with 15 points (8-of-9 from the line), while Jaroslaw Gizynski (196-PF-1999) had 13 and Michal Medes (200-F/C-1996) added 11. Wojciech Zub (181-PG-1995) contributed eight points, five assists, and a team-best +25 in 34 minutes. For Zgorzelec, Michal Jedrzejewski (186-PG-1998, agency: AB Agency) top-scored with 20 points and four rebounds, while Patryk Rosolowski (183-G-2004, agency: AB Agency) added 10. But the visitors made just 7 of 26 from three-point range (26.9%) and could not keep pace once Polonia found their range. In the 2 Liga Mezczyzn third-place series, KKS Tarnowskie Gory again narrowly lost to Legion Legionowo falling 85-81 in the return leg to finish fourth overall among all second-division teams, with Legionowo taking the two-game aggregate 177-169. |
