MACKENZIE LATT
American Forward Mackenzie Latt (185-F) had an amazing evening in the last round for Lombos Quinta, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 21. The player was the main contributor (28 points, four rebounds and three assists) to her team's victory, helping them to beat Olivais (#1, 17-4) 81-73. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Lombos Quinta maintains the 3rd position in Portuguese Liga Feminina. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Lombos Quinta will need more victories to improve their 15-4 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Latt as usually she does not deliver so high stats. Mackenzie Latt averages this season 11.5ppg and 5.5rpg.
The second best player in last round's games was 35-year old Senegalese Aya Traore (186-F-83) of CAD Coimbra. Traore had a very good evening with a double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as CAD Coimbra was edged by slightly higher-ranked Carnide (#8, 9-12) 70-66. CAD Coimbra is still second from the bottom in the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-14 record. Traore is one of the most experienced players at CAD Coimbra and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Miriam McKenzie (177-G-90) of Boa Viagem (#12). McKenzie got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. She went also for fifteen rebounds . Despite McKenzie's great performance Boa Viagem lost 73-74 to slightly higher-ranked Ovarense (#11, 5-16). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Boa Viagem can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-19 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for McKenzie she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. McKenzie has individually a great season in Portugal. After 13 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.6ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 10.5rpg (#1 in league). She also has 2.3spg and FGP: 53.3%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Gabriela Raimundo (167-PG-93) of Ovarense - 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Ana Raimundo (167-PG-93) of Ovarense - 18 points and 8 assists 6. Oyanaisy Gonzalez) of CAD Coimbra - 4 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists 7. Ines Faustino (170-PG-92) of Carnide - 18 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists 8. Chanaya Pinto (G) of Lombos Quinta - 14 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Kankou Coulibaly (185-C-90) of Uniao Sportiva - 16 points and 14 rebounds 10. Mandy Coleman (190-F/C-96) of CAB Madeira - 16 points, 17 rebounds and 2 assists
