American Candice Dupree left back in February. But despite she was not the member of Dobri Anjeli winning national championship, she was the leading player in her team for the most of season. She was also voted Euroleague All-Imports Team and Euroleague Defensive Player of the Year. So the MVP awards goes this year to American Candice Dupree of Dobri Anjeli. Dupree's teammate McCoughtry, who played also in Euroleague All-Star Game, cannot really make it to Slovakian league awards list. Just 9 games in the league is not enough to be included in the group of players we voted for. Another American player from Dobri Anjeli, Erin Marie Lawless is considered domestic player as she has Slovakian citizenship. Lawless is voted Best Domestic Player. As it was expected, Dobri Anjeli justified their tag as favorites as they swept the series 3-0, never allowing Presov to pull an upset in any of the games. Straight from start of the match it was clear that Dobri Anjeli want to finish this series in front of their fans. They came strong from the gate and by the end of the first quarter they were already up 25-19. In the second period, Dobri Anjeli players increased the defensive pressure limiting Presov players to only 11 points during that stretch. On the other side, they scored 26 points and as result, at the halftime they were up comfortably 51-31. After the break, tempo of the game went somewhat down as hosts played with just enough intensity to maintain their lead. Presov players however did not take advantage of this so they entered the final period trailing 65-47. Than in the final 10 minutes, even though the match was practically over, Dobri Anejli went on another series of runs. They again limited Presov to only 8 points in the period, and after the final buzzer they started to celebrate 93-51 blowout win as well as the championship title. Luisa Michulkova (179-F-84) led the way for the winning side with 26 points on the night. She received support from Erin Marie Lawless (188-F-85, agency: LBM Management, college: Purdue) as well as Daniela Cikosova (181-F-82) who added 24 and 20 points respectively. On the other side, Presov had Ciappinova who finished the game with 14 points. Zentkova was the only other player to reach double digits with 11 points, while next best scorer was Richter with 9 pts. The favorites won the Cup of the country. At first in the Semifinal Dobri anjeli outscored Presov 97:48. The favorites finished the first half with 43:32 and led the game to the winning effort. Angel McCoughtry led the way with 21 points, while Michulkova added 16. Risperova finished the night with 19 points in the losing effort and Wirth posted 10. Nitra joined the top team of the League as they rolled over BSS 81:66 in another Semifinal. Nita produced 38:30 in the first half and reached 15-point win at the end. Viera Libicova (190-C-80, agency: LBM Management) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and Andrea Oravcova (175-G-87) added 15. Pindrochova delivered 18 points in the losing case. In the FINAL game Dobri anjeli cruised past Nitra 98:73. The favorites were too good in the first half to grab 56:37 halftime advantage. They managed to keep the lead and rightfully celebrate the victory. Erin Marie Lawless (188-F-85, agency: LBM Management, college: Purdue) poured in 32 points for the winners. Angel McCoughtry (185-F-86, college: Louisville) nailed 18 and Kupckova posted 13. Ruzicova ended up with 16 points in the losing case. Andrea Oravcova chipped in 13 and Hnidzikova scored 10. |
