ACB Primera Division (1983-1984)
Asociacion de Clubs de Baloncesto was founded in 1982 and a year later organized it's own league called ACB Primera Division with several changes in the competition format as they introduced the playoffs and the overtimes in case of draw. In 1983 the new league was created called ACB Primera Division (Liga ACB).

First Year when the league started to be called ACB Primera Division changing its name in 1983 from Primera Liga.
In 1983 the number of teams in the league was increased from 14 to 16 teams.
The Play-Off Stage was implemented.
FINAL GAME The ACB League champion was Real Madrid , who beat FC Barcelona 2-1 in the final. In the second leg of the final, Mike Davis elbowed Iturriaga during a block. Iturriaga elbowed the Barcelona player in the face. Davis then punched Iturriaga in the face and in the ensuing scuffle the Barcelona player and Fernando Martín got into a fight. All three players were sent off. As a result, Fernando Martín was suspended for three games, Mike Davis for six games and Iturriaga was fined. The Catalan team did not attend the last match in protest against the Competition Committee's decision, so Real Madrid won 20-0 by default.
