Rio Breogan Closes Preseason With 116-82 Rout of Boca Juniors- September 10, 2026

Rio Breogan ended its preseason in emphatic fashion, blowing open a tight game with a 21-6 burst to start the third quarter on the way to a 116-82 win over Boca Juniors, the Argentine club currently touring Spain to prepare for the FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2026, which it will play in China from September 22 to 27. The first half offered little separation, with both sides struggling from beyond the arc - Breogan made just 6 of 18 threes, and defending Basketball Champions League Americas titlist Boca Juniors went 5 of 18 from the same range.
Coach Luis Casimiro rested American point guard Rasir Bolton (190-G-1999, college: Gonzaga, agency: Octagon Europe) with an eye on the upcoming Champions League qualifying phase, instead leaning heavily on Croatian duo Danko Brankovic (217-C-2000) and Dominik Mavra (195-G-1994), both of whom had missed part of preseason while away on national team duty. That Croatian pairing proved decisive out of the break: an assist from Mavra finished by a Brankovic dunk kick-started a 7-0 opening burst in barely a minute to start the third quarter, forcing Argentine coach Nicolas Casalanguida into an early timeout. Boca Juniors improved offensively out of that stoppage, but Peris and Brankovic kept answering from three-point range, stretching Breogan's lead to 12 points at 59-47 without any sign of the hosts easing off. Casalanguida had no choice but to call a second timeout at 67-49 with 25 minutes gone, though by then Breogan had already shifted into a higher gear that Boca Juniors simply could not match down the stretch. Aleksandar Aranitovic (195-SG-1998) led all scorers with 18 points off the Breogan bench, with Francis Alonso (191-SG-1996, college: UNCG) adding 17 and Brankovic finishing with 16 to go with his third-quarter spark. Tevin Brown (195-G-1998, college: Murray St.) and Mavra each scored 15 for the hosts. Nicolas Stenta (200-SG-2004) paced Boca Juniors with 15 points, Leonardo Lema (204-SF-1998) added 14, and Agustin Barreiro (204-SF-1999) chipped in 13, but none of it was enough to slow a Rio Breogan side that closed its preseason on a statement note. |
