Alicante defeated Fuenlabrada at home 96-82. Portuguese point guard Rafael Lisboa (183-1999) stepped up and scored 25 points and 4 assists for the winners and American Macio Teague (193-1997, college: Baylor) chipped in 17 points. At the losing side power forward Ivan Cruz-Uceda (208-1991, college: Miami, FL) responded with 23 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fuenlabrada will play next round against Gran Canaria trying to get back on the winning streak. Alicante will try to continue on its current victory against Menorca on the road.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Albacete at the home court. Hosts were rolled over by Zunder Palencia 95-69. Canadian-Croatian power forward Josip Vrankic (205-1998, college: Santa Clara) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and Ingus Jakovics accounted for 15 points and 8 assists. Guard Chuso Gonzalez (192-1994) came up with 17 points for Albacete in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zunder Palencia will play against Cordoba CB at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Albacete will play against Burgos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Torrelavega between Cantabria and Menorca. Cantabria got a very close home victory over Menorca. Cantabria managed to escape with a 1-point win 69-68 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Miha Lapornik fired 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. Kyle Greeley produced 18 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cantabria will meet Palma Fibwi in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Menorca will play against Alicante and hope to win that game.
There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Palma Fibwi lost to Palma BM on the opponent's court 94-95. Cordoba CB managed to outperform Zamora in a home game 72-57. Gipuzkoa managed to beat Granada on the road 82-76. Estudiantes defeated Caja 87 on its own court 78-65. Burgos lost to Ourense in a road game 71-91. Gran Canaria destroyed Oviedo at home 108-69.
Albacete - Palencia 69-95: The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of
Albacete at the home court. Hosts were rolled over by
Zunder Palencia 95-69.
Palencia made 34-of-40 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game, while
Albacete only scored thirteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded
Albacete 43-20 including a
33-13 advantage in defensive rebounds.
