American Point guard
PJay Smith (183-PG-2003) had a great game in the last round for
Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto, receiving a Hoops Agents Primera FEB Player of the Week award for round 4.
The 23-year old player was the main contributor (36 points, seven rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out
Burgos (#16,
0-4), the league's bottom-ranked team
101-100. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings.
Oviedo is placed at 12th position in Spanish Primera FEB.
Oviedo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their
2-2 record. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range and got seven three-pointers out of 12 attempts. He turned to be
Oviedo's top player in his first season with the team. Former Furman University star has very solid stats this year. Smith is league's best scorer averaging so far 22.5ppg. Smith is in league's top in assists (8th best: 4.8apg) and averages impressive 70.6% FGP and 48.6% from behind 3-point line.
The second best player in last round's games was young American
Wildens Leveque (211-F/C-2000) of
Hestia Menorca. Leveque had a very good evening with a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds. Bad luck as Menorca lost that game
67-72 to the higher-ranked
Palma Fibwi (#14,
1-3). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Menorca dropped in the standings to very bottom position. 4 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Leveque is a newcomer at Menorca and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
Third on the list of top players last round was
Ivan Cruz-Uceda (208-C/F-1991) of
Flexicar Fuenlabrada Madrid (#17). Cruz-Uceda scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (!!!). Despite Cruz-Uceda's great performance the Fuenlabrada lost
79-84 to the league's current leader
Cantabria (#2,
4-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Fuenlabrada can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 4 games. Cruz-Uceda has individually a great season in Spain. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.3ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 7.3rpg (4th best).

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
