Alonzo Verge Jr claims Spanish Liga Endesa weekly honour

American Alonzo Verge Jr (191-PG-1998, agency: Octagon Europe) had an amazing evening in the last round for Leyma Basquet Coruna and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 28-year old playmaker got a double-double of 26 points and 12 assists, while his team edged out Tenerife (#4, 4-2) 93-89. Coruna is placed at 14th position in Spanish Liga Endesa. Coruna is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-4 record. In the team's last game Verge Jr had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Coruna's top player in his first season with the team. University of Nebraska graduate has very impressive stats this year. Verge Jr is in league's top in points (3rd best: 19.8ppg) and assists (4th best: 6.7apg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American point guard James Akinjo (185-PG-2000) of MoraBanc Andorra. Akinjo impressed basketball fans with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Bad luck as MoraBanc Andorra lost that game 79-111 to the higher-ranked Valencia (#3, 4-2). Andorra is still in a red zone at 15th spot in the standings. 4 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory MoraBanc Andorra managed to get this year. Akinjo is a newcomer at Andorra and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Lithuanian Laurynas Birutis (213-C-1997) of Casademont Zaragoza (#8). Birutis scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. He was a key player of Zaragoza, leading his team to a 107-78 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Girona (#9, 3-3). Zaragoza needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 4 victories and 2 lost games. Birutis has a very solid season. In 6 games in Spain he scored 11.7ppg. He also has 4.8rpg and a FGP of 71.8%.
