Real Madrid: A Team That Has Shone for Over a Decade but Faces a Challenging 2025 Season – What do the Statistics Show?

- June 2, 2025
Eurobasket News

Real Madrid Baloncesto, known as Real Madrid or Royal Madrid Basketball, is a Spanish professional basketball club that was founded in 1931. They are widely regarded as one of the greatest and most skilled basketball clubs in Europe. That's likely why FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, is in talks with the NBA, the National Basketball Association of the United States, to try to bring the NBA to the European Basketball League to play some games. There is fierce competition for NBA teams playing European teams, especially ones as big as Real Madrid Basketball but that's a topic for another day, as today, it's all about Real Madrid, their ranking and their statistics during the 2024-2025 season.

With a record of 36 Spanish League Championships, including a 7 in a row and 10 in a row sequence – not even the Chicago Bulls were able to do that during their glory years with Michael Jordan – and they've won 29 Spanish Cup titles, a record 11 EuroLeague Championships, 4 Saporta Cups and 5 Intercontinental Cups. They're a big deal and rightly so; however, these are all awards from the past and the big question is: How did they do this season?

The 2024 - 2025 Season Has been Tighter than Expected for the Team

The 2024 season started in October and ended in May. This timeline is great because it gives you the chance to take a look back at the year that almost got the better of the Real Madrid team. With 22 total games won and 18 total games lost, it's fair to say that this was a season tighter than any before. Nonetheless, their points were relatively consistent, with average values of: 84.2 points, 36.6 rebounds, 18.7 assists, 6.0 steals, 2.8 blocks and 96.1 PIR.

Figures like these are vital to know about a team, as they give you an accurate representation of their chances at winning. For someone interested in betting on games like these, using a sportsbook text portal for bookmakers like bonusscommesse360.it is ideal, as it allows you to know your stuff whilst also finding reliable sports betting platforms. Their Performance in the First Half of the Season

Real Madrid did well over the season, with more wins than losses. Taking a closer look at their game performances over the past year will give better insight into how they've done in their basketball journey.

Their very first game was unfortunately not a win, which many assume is what put them on the wrong foot. It was the regular season, round 1, where they lost 97 - 89 to BC Bayern München (BAY).

In the next game, for round two, RMB came back swinging and beat PAT 93 - 86. This is where fans thought perhaps RMB was back to its usual high performance. However, the very next game against BKN in round 3 of the regular season, they lost 76 - 72.

Thereafter, they faced PAO in round 4 of the regular season and won that game 90 - 86. The winning streak continued for a game further when they faced CZV and won 95 - 72, which was quite the thrashing.

However, this win was short-lived as they lost the next three games, rounds 6, 7 and 8 against OLY 79 - 69, MTA 79 - 78 and EA7 85 - 76.

Then they faced VIR in round 9 of the regular season and were able to beat them 98 - 86. When they faced EFS in round 10, they unfortunately lost 74 - 64. However, they picked up the pace again when they placed BER, winning 98 - 84. They did well in round 12 against BAR and beat them 97 - 90. However, they lost the next three games again, rounds 13, 14 and 15 with 80 - 78 against ASV, 82 - 70 against FBB and 93 - 83 against ZAL.

RMB Picked Things Up in the Second Half of the Season

Things picked up for them over the next six games where they won, in which the scores looked like this over rounds 16 - 21: RMB vs PBB 96 - 85, RMB vs ASM 94 - 71, RMB vs BER 80 - 69, RMB vs BAY 88 - 76, RMB vs ZAL 83 - 64 and RMB vs MTA 116 - 113.

However, they faced their arch enemy, OLY, which is so unfortunate that they were paired against this team in the Final Cup Four, which will be further outlined below, as they seem to simply not do well against this team, where they lost again with a score of 96 - 86.

Round 23 was a tight win against BKN, where they won 90 - 89. Thereafter, they lost three games in a row. ASM vs RMB 77 - 73, EFS vs RMB 79 - 73 and FBB vs RMB 78 - 67.

There was a good win again against BAR, where they won 96 - 91. This was short-lived, as this time they ended up losing to PAO 85 - 70. They picked up the pace against VIR and won again, 80 - 67 which lead them to more wins: RMB vs ASV 81 - 70, RMB vs EA 7 96 - 89, RMB vs CZV 78 - 72, RMB vs PBB 105 - 104 and RMB vs PAR 89 - 91 was a win in the last round, 34 of the regular season.

There were, unfortunately, too many losses for RMB this season. Some of the wins they had were also very close, which was not easy to watch as a fan. However, they still managed more wins than losses.

The Season Ended with a Loss to Olympiacos Basketball in the Final Four Cup

Although RMB made more wins than losses this season, they fell short in the Final Four Cup. Each team game in during their Group stage, prepared to play four games. The team that won the most of these four games went to the semi-finals.

However, before playing OLY, they needed to compete in the play-in for Group A where they lost against PBB 81 - 73 but won in the play-in for Group C against BAY 91 - 71. This outcome meant they would face OLY in Payoff A. This is how it looked for RMB vs OLY.

During the Playoff A, Olympiacos won 3 of the 4 games, which put them in the semi-final instead of Real Madrid. These are the moments when people start to feel confused about Real Madrid's performance. Yes, they won more games than they lost over the season, yes, they made it to the Final Four Playoffs but what people are used to is seeing them win the whole thing and not be knocked out before the Semifinal.

In their Group A Game 1 on April 23rd, 2025, they lost to OLY 84 -71. In the second game on April 25th, 2025, OLY came back with even more push and won that game 77 - 71. A few days later, on April 29th, in game three, RMB finally showed what they were worth, winning with 80 - 72. It was all up to RMB to have a fighting chance to enter the Semifinal but in game 4, they lost narrowly to OLY with a score of 86 -84. A heartbreaking defeat and one that pushed them out of the Final Four Cup. A crushing blow to a team that is usually the best in the league.

How Does the 2025 - 2026 Season Look for RMB

Source: Unsplash

It's hard to say how the season ahead will look for RMB. They are certainly upset and disappointed with this last season, especially having not made it to the Final Four Cup and their past experiences were far greater than this season. They have a long break now and then the next season starts on 7 October 2025 and will run again till May 2026.

However, before the season starts, they have the group draw for the Basketball Champions League, which is to take place on July 2, 2025. Again, RMB will have to participate in the regular season group rounds; however, this time, they need to try to win as many games as possible, which is the motto for any team. However, given the expectation and track record of this team, the pressure to perform is a little higher. Just think, who is one of the best players in the NBA right now? Yes, Luka Doncic and who does he play for? LA Lakers. But where did he earn his stripes? The Real Madrid Basketball Youth Team signed a 5 year contract back then. So this team, even the youth section, is excellent at training and pushing out key players, which is why training will likely be their focus over the next few months.

Look For What Happens Next

In conclusion, Real Madrid Baloncesto’s 2024–2025 season was a big reminder that even the best of the best can sometimes not come out on top. With a record of 22 wins and 18 losses, the team showed signs of greatness; however, what didn't work for them was their inconsistency, especially against rivals like Olympiacos.

Yes, their average statistics remained solid but their back-to-back losses and then these small glimmers of hope simply weren't enough to get the ball truly rolling. Their early exit in the Final Four Cup showed that perhaps they weren't the team that everyone knew and loved. However, don't count them out for the next season.

As the team prepares for the 2025–2026 season, the focus will likely shift to intensive training, as mentioned above and probably also some roster evaluations and tactical adjustments. It is true that the road ahead looks a bit challenging and they do have some ground to make up; however, if there is any team that can do this, it's Real Madrid.
