Wilfried Tsafack claims Spanish U22 League weekly honour

Wilfried Tsafack

Talented Cameroonian Wilfried Tsafack (2007) put on an amazing game in the last round for Gran Canaria U22 team and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 7 (Second Stage).
The 18-year old had the game-high 33 points adding six rebounds for G.Canaria U22 in his team's victory, helping them to crush Manresa U22 (#7, 6-16) with 17-point margin 94-77. Gran Canaria maintains the 4th position in their group in the Spanish U22 League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. G.Canaria U22 will need more victories to improve their 14-6 record. In the team's last game Tsafack had a remarkable 68.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Gran Canaria's top player in his first season with the team. Tsafack has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (5th best: 18.3ppg), rebounds (5th best: 8.4rpg) and averages solid 62.7% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Senegalese Gaye Ababacar (2007) of Stellantis & You FCBG Granada U22 team. Ababacar impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 35 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Granada U22 lost that game 83-108 to the higher-ranked Murcia U22 (#1, 10-8). Granada U22 are still at the very bottom of group B. 17 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Granada U22 managed to get this Second Stage. Ababacar is a newcomer at Granada U22 and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Urko Madariaga (199-C-2005) of Surne Bilbao Basket (#4). Madariaga showcased his all-around game by recording 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the last round. He was a key player of Surne Bilbao, leading his team to a 77-69 win against #2 ranked Girona U22 in a game of the week. The chances of Bilbao ranking at the top of group B, however are very questionable as they have already lost 10 games, recording just nine victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Madariaga could help Bilbao U22 to bring them higher in the standings. Madariaga has a great season in Spain. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.4rpg (6th best).

8. Max Gaspa (190-G-2006) of Manresa U22 - 22 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists
9. David Acosta (203-F-2004) of Canarias U22 - 14 points and 10 rebounds
10. Mervedi Miteo (208-F-2008) of G.Canaria U22 - 15 points and 8 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
