Regular Season Round 4: Breakers - 36ers 119-93

The most important game in the last round took place in Auckland between third ranked Adelaide 36ers (3-3) and seventh ranked New Zealand Breakers (2-3) on Saturday night. Adelaide 36ers were crushed by New Zealand Breakers on the road 119-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Adelaide 36ers. The game without a history. New Zealand Breakers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. New Zealand Breakers outrebounded Adelaide 36ers 44-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. New Zealand Breakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Adelaide 36ers' players. Worth to mention a great performance of New Zealand swingman Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin, agency: Duran International) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 4 assists and American-Panamanian forward Akil Mitchell (206-92, college: Virginia) who added 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Nathan Sobey (190-90, college: Wyoming) responded with 32 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Ukrainian point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California) scored 20 points and 5 assists. Five New Zealand Breakers and four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. New Zealand Breakers moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Taipans. Adelaide 36ers at the other side keep the third position with three games lost. They share it with Bullets. New Zealand Breakers is looking forward to face higher ranked Bullets (#4) in Brisbane in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Adelaide 36ers will play on the road against the league's second-placed Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
