Regular Season Round 9: 36ers - Breakers 95-92

Date: December 10, 2017
There was a change at the NBL leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader New Zealand Breakers (10-4). They were edged by fifth ranked Adelaide 36ers (7-6) 95-92 on Sunday night. Adelaide 36ers made 28-of-37 free shots (75.7 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Adelaide 36ers made 7 blocks. 30 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International guard Nathan Sobey (190-90, college: Wyoming) stepped up and scored 22 points and 6 assists for the winners and the former international power forward Daniel Johnson (210-88, college: Pepperdine) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican-American point guard Edgar Sosa (190-88, college: Louisville) with 26 points and New Zealand forward Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St.) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. New Zealand Breakers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Adelaide 36ers moved-up to third place, which they share with United. New Zealand Breakers at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Wildcats. New Zealand Breakers will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Adelaide 36ers will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked New Zealand Breakers in Auckland.
