There was no surprise when 9th ranked Brest (2-14) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Vitebsk (8-8) 102-74. Vitebsk dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Brest's 34. Vitebsk forced 20 Brest turnovers and outrebounded them 60-23 including a 43-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Brest's players. Vitebsk brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Center Pavel Bliznets (210-94) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). Forward Ruslan Pishcheyko (190-98) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Guard Anton Shchurko (188-97) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds and forward Konstantin Solyshko (196-96) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Brest. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vitebsk maintains fourth place with 8-8 record, which they share with Impuls BGUIR. Brest lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. Vitebsk will play against GOCOR-Sozh (#8) in Gomel in the next round. Brest will play at home against Tsmoki II and hopes to get back on the winning track.
