We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when thirteenth ranked Liga Sorocaba (5-12) edged 12th ranked Universo/Vitoria (5-11) in Salvador 74-73 on Tuesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Universo/Vitoria won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for guard Arlindo Neto (187-86) who saved his team from a defeat with 19 points. Forward Igor Avelino (196-93) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Ghanian guard Kojo Mensah (185-85, college: Buffalo St.) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Spanish Alvaro Calvo (202-83, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Universo/Vitoria. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Liga Sorocaba maintains thirteenth position with 5-12 record. Universo/Vitoria lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth place with 11 games lost. Liga Sorocaba will face higher ranked SKY/Basquete (#5) in Aldeota in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
