Regular Season Round 19: Pinheiros - Mogi 79-81
Date: January 29, 2016
The most exciting game of round 19 in the NBB took place in Sao Paolo. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Pinheiros (9-9) to sixth ranked Mogi (10-6) 81-79 in the game for the sixth place. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-79. 26 personal fouls committed by Pinheiros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 5 rebounds. The former international point guard Larry Taylor (185-80, college: Missouri Western) helped adding 19 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) responded with 27 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and forward Lucas Dias Silva (209-95) scored 19 points. Pinheiros' coach Cesar Guidetti tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mogi maintains sixth place with 10-6 record. Pinheiros at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Franca. Mogi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pinheiros will play at home against the league's second-placed Paschoalotto/Bauru (#2) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
