The game between closely ranked teams ended with 3rd placed Vivo/Franca's (12-5) road loss to second ranked Pinheiros (13-5) 78-89 on Thursday. Pinheiros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) who had a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. His fellow American import guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) chipped in 24 points and 7 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international Lucas Cipolini (206-86, college: BYU-Hawaii) produced 21 points and 9 rebounds and forward Antonio Ferreira (178-94) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros maintains second place with 13-5 record behind leader Mogi. Loser Vivo/Franca keeps the third position with five games lost. Pinheiros will face Paschoalotto/Bauru (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Vivo/Franca will play against Paulistano (#5) in Sao Paolo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
