Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Rio de Janeiro: Flamengo (#9) and Vasco Da G. (#11). Flamengo (5-2) won against visiting Vasco Da G. (3-7) 89-81. Flamengo dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Vasco Da G.'s 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Marcelo Machado (201-75, agency: Interperformances) who scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Flamengo players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Welington Dos-Santos (185-81) produced 18 points and 7 assists and American David Jackson (195-82, college: Penn St.) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flamengo moved-up to eighth place. Loser Vasco Da G. keeps the eleventh position with seven games lost. Flamengo will meet at home league's second-placed Pinheiros in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vasco Da G. will play against Joinville (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
