There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Espanol de Talca (4-5) beat at home higher ranked CD Castro (4-5) 88-78 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-78. Espanol de Talca looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. CD Castro was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Paul Davis (205-88, college: Winston Salem) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Nigerian-American forward Bayo Arigbon (197-86, college: San Diego Chr.) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Nigerian-American power forward Ike Okoye (206-86, college: Boise St.) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and international forward Juan Fontena (196-87) added 12 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Espanol de Talca moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated CD Castro. Espanol de Talca will face Tinguiririca S.F. (#7) in San Fernando in the next round. CD Castro will play on the road against AB Ancud and hope to win that game.
