No shocking result in a game when third ranked Ciego (11-3) beat 5th ranked Pinar (7-10) in Avila 68-62 on Tuesday. Ciego forced 21 Pinar turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for center Yoan Haity who led the winners and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Yasser Rodriguez (187-88) accounted for 23 points for the winning side. Ciego's coach Jesus Martus used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Tomas Blanco (186-90) came up with 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for Pinar in the defeat. Ciego have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Loser Pinar keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Ciego will again meet at home Pinar (#5) in the next round. Pinar will have a break next round.
