The most exciting game of round 8 in the Eurocup took place in Istanbul. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked TurkishBesiktas (4-4) to second ranked Spanish Gran Canaria (6-2) 76-74 on Wednesday evening. 24 personal fouls committed by Besiktas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Gran Canaria's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Montenegrin-American point guard Derek Needham (180-1990, college: Fairfield) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds and American Jonah Mathews (191-1998, college: USC) scored 19 points and 4 assists. Gran Canaria maintains second position with 6-2 record behind leader Valencia, which they share with H.Jerusalem. Besiktas at the other side keep the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams.
