Souffelweyersheim used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Tarbes 85-81 on Saturday night. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 22-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Souffelweyersheim outrebounded Lourdes-Tarbes 35-24 including 20 on the defensive glass. Lithuanian power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) fired 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. DR Congolese-Belgian power forward Ruphin Kayembe (200-92) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. The former international center Ludovic Vaty (206-88, college: Moraine Valley CC) produced 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Florian Lesca (198-89) added 20 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Souffelweyersheim will face Caen at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lourdes-Tarbes will play against Gries/Oberhoffen (#3) and hope to win that game.
