Regular Season Round 8: Lourdes - Challans 79-108

There was an upset when higher ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (3-5) was outscored at home by seventeenth ranked Vendee Challans (2-6) 108-79 on Friday. The game without a history. Vendee Challans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Lourdes-Tarbes' 40. They outrebounded Lourdes-Tarbes 32-19 including 23 on the defensive glass. Vendee Challans looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Matthew Gibson (195-84, agency: Pensack Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. Serbian Djordje Petrovic (202-84) contributed with 24 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international center Ludovic Vaty (206-88, college: Moraine Valley CC) replied with 11 points and 6 rebounds and the former international point guard Xane d'Almeida (181-83) added 10 points and 5 assists in the effort for Lourdes-Tarbes. Five Vendee Challans and four Lourdes-Tarbes players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vendee Challans moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Gries/Oberhoffen and Orchies. Loser Lourdes-Tarbes dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Vendee Challans will face higher ranked Rueil (#7) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
