Regular Season Round 9: Poitiers - St Quentin 79-65

An interesting game took place in Poitiers where higher ranked Saint-Quentin (5-4) was upset on the court of eleventh ranked Poitiers (4-5) 79-65 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-65. Poitiers outrebounded Saint-Quentin 42-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Saint-Quentin was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Mickael Var (205-90) stepped up and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Senegalese center Youssoupha Fall (221-95) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Poitiers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman Pierre-Etienne Drouault (196-90) with 11 points and 7 assists and American-Kenyan forward Robert Nyakundi (203-89, college: SMU) scored 13 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Poitiers moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Saint-Quentin dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Poitiers will face ADA Blois (#16) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Saint-Quentin will play against Lille Metropole (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
