Regular Season Round 18: Batumi - Rustavi 91-86
Date: February 19, 2016
There was no surprise when 7th ranked Energy Invest (7-11) was defeated on the road by second ranked Batumi (12-6) 91-86 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 22-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. International Besik Lezhava (192-86, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 29 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Akaki Dvalishvili (206-91) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Kiel Turpin (213-89, college: Florida St., agency: Three Eye Sports) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and the former international point guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-86) scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Batumi keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Dinamo Tbilisi. Loser Energy Invest keeps the seventh place with 11 games lost. Batumi will meet bottom-ranked MIA (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Energy Invest will play against Mgzavrebi in Tbilisi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
