There was no surprise when 5th rankedHerner (11-10) was defeated on the road by second ranked ALBA Berlin (17-4) 74-60 on Saturday. ALBA Berlin looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American power forward Maggie Mulligan (190-1995, college: UMass) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import point guard Deeshyra Thomas (170-1995, college: Weber St.) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. ALBA Berlin's coach Cristo Cabrera used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Allison Day (185-2000, college: BGSU) with 13 points and 6 rebounds and French guard Claire Parisi (169-1999) scored 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Defending champion maintains second place with 17-4 record having just two points less than leader Keltern. Loser Herner dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Halle. ALBA Berlin will meet Veilchen (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Herner will play against Saarlouis (#3) and hope to secure a win.
