Regular Season Round 5: Irakleio - Panionios 67-80

Very expected game when 15th ranked Irakleio (1-4) was defeated at home by leader Panionios (5-0) 80-67 on Saturday. Panionios made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Panionios had a 31-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Irakleio was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79) stepped up and scored 20 points for the winners and guard Sakis Karydas (182-79) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Serbian center Damir Latovic (204-80) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds and forward Alexandros Petrakis (200-87) scored 12 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Panionios. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Iraklis. Irakleio lost their fourth game in a row. Irakleio at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eleventh place with four games lost. Panionios will face league's leader Iraklis in Thessaloniki in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Irakleio will play on the road against Psyhiko (#9) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
