Regular Season Round 5: Naft Abadan - Gorgan 68-66

Bottom-ranked Shahrdari Gorgan (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 68-66 loss to fourth ranked Naft Abadan (4-1) in Abadan on Thursday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Shahrdari Gorgan won fourth quarter 19-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Naft Abadan made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Shahrdari Gorgan turnovers. International swingman Saeed Davarpanah (190-87, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and international Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-90, agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in 11 points and 14 rebounds. Croatian power forward Filip Toncinic (212-84, college: Texas A&M-CC) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and the former international guard Majid GhasemZadeh (187-89) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Shahrdari Gorgan players scored in double figures. Shahrdari Gorgan's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Naft Abadan moved-up to second place. Shahrdari Gorgan lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Naft Abadan will meet league's leader Petrochimi in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Shahrdari Gorgan will play against Shiraz a.s Pipe (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
