There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Ironi Kiryat Ata (6-6) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Maccabi Rehovot (6-5) 86-77 on Tuesday. Maccabi Rehovot outrebounded Ironi Kiryat Ata 46-33 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Rehovot especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Evan Yates (198-91, college: Ashland) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. The other American import guard Marquis Addison (195-91, college: Missouri So., agency: XL Basketball Agency) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Yates is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Sir'Dominic Pointer (198-92, college: St.John's) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and guard Noam Matalon (197-87) added 15 points and 5 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Rehovot have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Hap.Haifa. Loser Ironi Kiryat Ata dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Maccabi Rehovot will meet at home Galil Elion (#11) in the next round. Ironi Kiryat Ata will play against Hap.R/G Givat. in Givataim and hope to secure a win.
