Regular Season Round 20: Hapoel Holon - Hapoel T-A 80-78

Date: February 26, 2017
Sixth-ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (10-10) made lots of trouble for second ranked Hapoel Holon (14-6) on Sunday. Hapoel Holon managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-18. But Hapoel Tel-Aviv won second period 21-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Darion Atkins (203-92, college: Virginia) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman James Bell (197-92, college: Villanova) who added 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Hapoel Holon players scored in double figures. Naturalized American power forward Richard Howell (203-90, college: N.Carolina St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists and American swingman Alando Tucker (198-84, college: Wisconsin) scored 21 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hapoel Holon maintains second position with 14-6 record behind leader Maccabi T-A. Loser Hapoel Tel-Aviv keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Maccabi Rishon. Hapoel Holon will meet at home Bnei Hasharon (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against Maccabi Ashdod and hope to secure a win.
