There was no surprise when 15th ranked Fondi (3-19) was edged at home by thirteenth ranked Maddaloni (6-16) 80-78 on Wednesday. Maddaloni made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Fondi turnovers. Strangely Fondi outrebounded Maddaloni 53-32 including a 42-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fondi was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized Argentinian Juan Manuel Caceres (199-84, agency: Interperformances) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Salvatore Desiato (180-82) chipped in 21 points. Swingman Angelo Luzza (197-95) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 23 rebounds and 9 assists and point guard Antonello Lilliu (182-82) added 21 points respectively for lost side. Four Fondi players scored in double figures. Maddaloni maintains thirteenth position in B with 6-16 record, which they share with Sangiorgese. Loser Fondi keeps the fifteenth place with 19 games lost. Maddaloni will face league's second-placed Napoli Basket at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
